How to use competitor's images? (Copyright)

I just found a very good niche.
The problem is that the niche doesn't make sense without including a lot of images.

What are your thoughts on using competitor's images?
It seems like a pretty fast way to get them to sink you.
There has been a lot of discussion on BHW about lawyers going after bloggers for copyright infringement.

I wouldn't take the risk. Use photoshop or paint or something and just throw together
an image. Or like the_demon said just use a freebie site and attribute them on your site.
 
There are so many royalty-free image sites out there. Go and use those rather than taking the risk.

Hi, i agree with them, especially if you were thinking of using images from direct competitors because they would certainly check your site and recognize their images, and of course sue you. Just get some royalty-free images because it's not worth the hassle.
 
does anyone know how much istockphoto pics/subscription cost?
 
If you discover that a competitor is using your organization's images or text on their website, a recent court decision will be of interest to you. If you've ever thought about using content from a competitor's site on your own, you should also take heed.

I have seen you post about embeding youtube videos:

At present, US law states that the host is not responsible for material uploaded by users. Embedding is really just like making a hyper link. It's the uploader's fault if it's copyrighted.

So let me know what is problem if he find images using google image search then upload them on Flickr using proxy and after that embed them on the site using flickr ?

Dont believe that. It's copyright infringement none the less.

The FEDs have been seizing tv/movie sites the past few months and many of them just linked to other sites.

BTW, i think that quote means if you have some community site like a forum and a user uploads or embeds some copyright stuff then the webmaster is not responsible which is true.

But if your whole site is themed around users uploading copyright content (like warez sites), then the owner is responsible.

As 99% sites use stolen images it is imposible to compete with them without using stolen images too.

Also is it illegal to use youtugbe videos on your site. You can find lots of images on flickr too - and they are available on flickr so why is crime if you add them to your site?

Get anonymous off-shore hosting and get the same domain registration and just smile at them and chunk up the deuce. :D

I don't think this solves my problem.

If the niche is MOTORCYCLE REVIEWS, for example, you want one photo of each motorcycle model. Where can I find those? I would be willing to pay to license images, but I don't see every model on istockphoto.
 
Just become affiliate one MC store that has all models. Then you will most likely have rights to show their pictures as long as you promote their products.
