What is the best strategy for white hat twittering?

Is it best to follow as many people as possible in order to quickly gain those reciprocal follows back from them, or does it somehow hurt you if you have way more people you are following than is following you?

And if following people in mass isn't the best way to gain a quick large following, then what is?

Strange lol, nobody knows if it's better to have a larger follower to followed ration or if that even matters?

better for WHAT purpose? just tweet good and relevant stuff -> natural gain of followers. isn't that the white hat way?

If you don't want to game the system, who the hell cares if you have more followers than you're following. Twitter is a microblogging tool, that's all there is to it when it comes to "white hat"

My thought was that if you are following 100x more people than the number of followers you have that Google might look at that as a less valuable Twitter member.

Say I've got 400 followers, not bad. But I'm following 8,000 people. Will that effect the potency of my re-tweets in Google's eyes vs if I had 400 followers and was following only 50 people?

    That's part of my question.

The second part is what non-bot organic way is the quickest and best way to gain followers? Does it attact more people to tweet 50 times a day until random people see your tweets and follow you, or is it better to only tweet a little but follow a TON of people so that you gain a lot of follows from nice people who follow everybody that follows them?

    That's the summary.

you can't follow 8000 people with 400 followers. The limit is 2000. And I don't think google cares about you follow ratio, why would they?

Everything manual considered White Hat. You need to boost your twitter followers by some viral stuff. Following/un-following, having multiply accounts is not considered a white-hat

In my opinion, the point of "white hat" twitter is to drive traffic, not to enhance SEO. here is my reasoning:

If you are trying to create social signals for Google to recognize, you will need to get thousands of retweets and people tweeting your link, and, unfortunately, that is very hard to do in a short period of time. It is like building a company with enough hype around it to get thousands of people talking about it in their tweets. And, if you can do that, then you already have a good following, and you won't even neeed SEO to make money for that site.

I think the core of any Twitter marketing method is going to be implementing the follow/unfollow method. It is the best way to get noticed on a consistent basis with very little work. Scrape a ton of followers who you think would be interested in your product/service/site/ Follow them at a pace you are comfortable with, and unfollow the nonreciprocals after 2 days. I would use a bot for this, as there is no reason not to. If you pace out the time between follows enough you can do a couple hundred a day, but start smaller, and do more after a few days. Once the accounts age a bit, I do 1000 follows a day. After you have followers, you can start tweeting your links as well as some link-free,user-engaging tweets.

I wouldnt even consider this black hat because I see big companies do it all the time, and even celebrities. People on Twitter are used to seeing people following thousands of people, and I don't think google even cares.

Twitter reputation depends more on quality of tweets instead of your Follow / unfollow ratio

I get my followers the natural way, I constantly post quotes in my tweets, specific to the niche the account is about.
People then retweet it and the chain continues.

Ah, that is interesting. How do they define "quality" then? By who retweets you and how big they are?

Twitter doesn't DESERVE to be treated with white hat respect.

Treat it like the black hat red headed step child BITCH that it is.

My traffic strategy has not changed for this pathetic "social media" platform. Follow a couple hundred people a day, get rid of people that don't follow you back after 2 days. Collect your 25 new url views per day per account.

    :::::yawn::::::

Wake up tomorrow to do the same shit. Twitter is like that fat chick I call on at 3AM....I really don't want to bang her, but it gets the job done.

Can you tell I've had a few drinks to celebrate our kick ass veterans that went down fighting for this country?

A friend of mine wrote the world's first book - The Twitter handbook o something, back years ago - she was very successful in using twitter (although very OCD!) by using "marketing seduction" as she called it. Her success came from two principles "Be funny" or "Be shocking" ... the 3rd "Be Famous" is a bit hard to create on your own!
