Hey,

I'm changing my website, going from old design and content to new one. Yes it is absolutely necessary, because it is a really old website. The domain will stay the same. Is there any precautions that I can take to not loose rankings for some keywords or is it inevitable?

Thanks.

Use old HTML but change only your CSS :) then you be 100% sure that google will not notice at all that your design changed. If you will also change content, then there is chance that you rankings will dance.

If you only change your design, it is not likely that your website will lose rankings. However, if you change structure of your website you will see some fluctuations in rankings.

When you move the hosting. Ranking will go down. This is caused in the search engine index also fell.

Very long to get back rank.
Because you are competing with the old content that has a lot of backlinks.
You build a new website.
You have to start from scratch

What are you talking about, Jobdollarr? How changing hosting can make you compete with yourself?

Please update this thread with what happened when you're finished, thanks!

If you move hosting, this will lower the ranking of the website.

Because when you move data from A to hosting hosting B, then google index declined.

And some of the missing index.

You will compete with your competitors' web pages, which have long been in the SERP.

And you have to start from first.
Backlink, index, and the things that you wake up from the beginning of your website stand

Maybe I should be more specific,

I'm doing a total overhaul for a wordpress based website. The domain and hosting stays the same. I know that I will loose rankings, I was just wondering is it possible to do any precautions.

I used to change the theme.
In blogspot traffic changes.
Perhaps because google to index your site again.

It was just a possibility.
Please give it a try.

Did you read what OP is asking? And that is not true what you said. Please stop making stupid comments, as other people believe this.

Sometimes, People believe on them because they really don't know much about this. So i request to post "Comment" here only if that add value to the page.

If you only change the design & URL structure of main page & other inner pages remains the same, then for sure you will not loose rankings.

But, if you change the content, then it will affect the rankings & "Ashgriel" has provided the best solution here.

Moving a website to a new domain should result in nothing worse than a small, temporary drop in traffic while Google indexes your new pages. In practice, no domain move is 100% guaranteed to be quick and painless, and some sites do see significant traffic loss.

One company's domain migration headaches in 2012 and reveals some interesting information. They migrated 130,000+ URLs from one domain to another and saw significant drops in their SERPs and organic traffic. However, after roughly 13 weeks, they had recovered almost 85% of their traffic.
Many other online forums are filled with similar posts like A and B that complain about losing traffic after 301ing an old domain to a new one. While it is difficult to determine all the relevant factors from a forum post, some of these complaints seem to have basis in reality.

Are you changing theme ONLY or adding all new content?

If you are just changing theme then you can do little (add few good backlinks).

But if you are adding total new content (as per your post, you are doing this, right?), then do following:

- Install new wordpress for this new site.

- Keep your old site live. Update it's pages adding link to the related page from new site.

Example: if you have old 'TOS' page then add link of new 'TOS' page to it. Something like :---

"This TOS page is an old page. Please visit our new TOS page here."

- Set your homepage to new site index page.

HTH :)

If you're only doing a theme change, you might lose rankings if the theme change is drastic.

Other than that, you should probably be fine if you keep all URLs the same.

301 redirect old pages to new pages.

The website now is HTML based, we are transfering it to wordpress. But to the same domain. Wouldn't it require to build all the pages on wordpress?

If your website is HTML based & you are going to transfer it to wordpress, then their is no problem at all.

I've used wordpress for a long time for my sites & still using it and you can also use the HTML code of your existing domain into the webpages of new one's (that you are going to build in wordpress).

Yes it will change your ranking depending on the quality of content that you are going to use. But change may be positive if you use high quality content from expert writer.
