How to target a huge niche?

Lets say i want to target keywords in the home improvement niche. I can have categories kitchen, bathroom garden etc.
I dont want to rank my homepage or my categories but i want to target several keywords within all these categories.
Is it wise to create one huge site targetting a niche so broad or should i create several smaller ones and why?

homepage target for "home improvement" and its variation. Then either create subdomains or categories of each sub-niches and those rank for different set of keywords. Lastly posts/inner pages rank for longtail keywords.

You can start ranking longtail keywords as it should be easier. Once you have bunch of longtails in one category you start ranking another category.

That's exactly how you would do it. Using a silo structure would also help. However, if you have to ask about building several smaller ones vs a big one then I assume that you have never build a big project? There are several pros and a few cons for each:

Pros for building a big project:

- A higher trust level with google, espacially if you brand the site well
- A Branded Website can also increase CTR
- The bigger your website gets, the more trust and quality backlinks it gains, the easier it gets to rank new keywords, you can rank thousands of small keywords easily that way

Pros for building several smaller projects:

- Not putting all your "eggs in one basket" - if you get panalized you have a chance to keep income as some sites might survive
- Simpler to set up as a lot less thought has to go into the proper silo structures but less easy to rank several smaller keywords later as it will have a smaller trust than a bigger well branded website would have

Is there any benefit in going on more than one websites with each website targetting a subniche? To be more specific i have 1st category--->10kws and 50 long tails and i create 60 articles
Same with 10 other related categories. Now the question is this. Would i have better results on throwing all the content on one huge website or in 10 smaller ones?

Ok thats what i was looking for. Thanks. Yes i have read about silo structure but i have a "problem" in the niche i want to target. I dont want to target the Homepage or the category keywords. But i could create many mini silos inside i guess.

Glad I could help. And yes, mini silos would work as well though a proper silo structure is more recommended generally. Why would you not want to target anything on the homepage when it will get juice from all the urls on deeper levels either way? That just sounds a bit silly to me, considering that it should be able to rank a lot of different keywords on there through proper onpage seo when you build the deep links.

I would highly recommend you to create an authority niche website to target a big niche.

Yep, agree with this strategy totally. Also make sure to create quality articles so that your website will gain authority in the eyes of the big G.
