How to store Etherums in hot wallet ??

I have some Ethereums using Cex.io, I wanted to know how can I store them locally, in a hot wallet with me only having keys, because I was wondering if I want to invest for long term I must have the keys because if don't own the keys you don't own the coins.

Has anyone ever tried it ? or I can keep with them exchange. ?

But how do I transfer them from Cex.io ? unlike coinbase they don't offer wallet keys. and MyEtherwallet is safe ?
