Are there any tools or methods to stop competitors using tools like spyglass etc to view your backlinks.

No not really especially with tools like AHREFS being so readily available.

There is no such tool that will hide your backlinks.

I don't think AHREFS will ever do that because if they allow the option to hide your links then no one would pay for a subscription to see the links of others.

It might be possible to block the tools used with htaccess.

If you got the IP address block ranges and the user-agent for MajesticSEO and the other tools, then yes, I can show you how to stop the tools being used on your website.
I am about 90% sure that will work.

However if you do that, you also wont be able to use these tool, although you can if you comment out the relevant lines in the htaccess when you want to use the tools, and then un-comment the lines again when you are done.

They can counter that with a premium subscription for VIPs who will be able to see blocked sites and a Super premium subrscription to block out premium members. Good way of raising revenue LOL

    htcaccess

    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^AhrefsBot
    RewriteRule .* - [F]

    Or in your robot.txt
    user-agent: AhrefsBot
    disallow: /

you guys are crazy, sorry few beers :)
Of course there is a way to stop them form seeing you.
I did not create this but am putting it in looking to educate those.
*Only problem with stopping all the spiders is if you get neg'd SEO'd... you won't be able to see what is going on. Maybe you keep one of the link crawlers open like majestic or Ahref's
    Here are the major ones.

    User-agent: rogerbot
    Disallow: /
    User-agent: exabot
    Disallow: /
    User-agent: MJ12bot
    Disallow: /
    User-agent: dotbot
    Disallow: /
    User-agent: gigabot
    Disallow: /
    User-agent: AhrefsBot

What's the sense in blocking them? They will still see and record all the links pointing at your site. Blocking by robots or htaccess file will do nothing to prevent them from displaying this information.

This way i think you can block robots see the links FROM your site (or any other site use this) to other sites.
Some people use this for their privet blog networks, but in this case they own the domain and the hosting so they can do it.
If you have a link from cnn.com, for example you can't hide this using this code in your site, you have to add in on cnn's .htcaccess (sounds impossible...) . The only way to hide the the incoming link from other website is to own the website!
