How to Stop Being Lazy

Avoiding traps doesn't mean avoid them entirely, just make sure you do what you planned to do that day first. Work first, Play after.

Another Simple Tip

Don't stay in your pajamas or whatever you sleep in. When you wake change your clothes as if your going to a real job.
This one was huge for me, and sometimes I still fall back into this habit.

I've always loved lounging around in my boxers, especially in the summertime. Problem is, whenever I do that I feel like a bum and it reflects in my productivity. Furthermore, I'm more likely to jerk off when I should be working instead. :P

This can be huge depending on your daily routines. I personally don't change clothes to sleep in, so it doesn't matter one way or the other. But anything related to sleeping or being lazy (such as wearing pajamas) should be avoided when planning to work.

It's a simple matter of psychological reactions in this case. If every time you put pajamas on you go to bed, when you are wearing pajamas you subconsciously will want to go to bed.

This can also be reversed but can take a bit of training. I mentioned in the OP that I clean a bit before I work, which means after a while it becomes a routine in which after cleaning my mind is subconsciously ready to work. Doing something you normally don't do before or while working is a great way to get things done since you train yourself to react to your thing in such a manner.

I'd just like to chime in on how important the LIST actually is -- without it... I'm personally a lot more lazier. If I just look at the list of stuff I have to do... I know it'd make me feel a whole lot better if I just took 5min to do something and cross out at least one item.... which usually leads to getting a crapload more stuff done.

One more thing I forgot to mention... grab a calendar from any dollar-store and a red marker.

For ever day that you knock off at least one item off your list -- or at least starting an item on your list -- mark a BIG RED X on the calendar. Once you get a nice line of X's, you'll be more inclined not to break it and keep the habit up...

This applies to lots of things and not just procrastination.... weight loss, exercise, meditation, etc

I find that it is helpful to break the day into little bits as well. For example when I am writing articles I will write five and then take a break (eat and watch an episode of the Office or something). Then I will do another 5 and so on. When you break it up into little bits it is far less overwhelming. Try to do something to reward yourself and look forward to when you take a break (eating, playing a video game for 20 mins, etc). It has made me so much more productive at getting started and continuing with the motivation throughout the day.

excellent tips, most of them i dont follow :) gonna try and make some changes tho :)

Good post!

I have ADD and tend to daydream and lose track of time. I got myself a Dry Erase board and cork board to help me keep track of things. I was reading on OPRAH's site that people that make lists on random sheets of paper and post it notes rarely complete their tasks.

You need something big and visual. My dry erase board is where I write out the exact tasks that I need to complete in bright colors (its actually a checklist), and the cork board is where I brainstorm with diagrams. It's working pretty good, but I need to do as you said, and avoid the energy draining activities such as watching tv and surfing the net while I work. I want to make a definite work schedule like 12-4pm is 100% work oriented time.
