Check your desktop and mobile loading times. I'm assuming you're using Wordpress. Download a plugin called perfmatters. I believe @RoiBox uploaded this for free to the forum, so look for his thread and find the updated version.

At the start, you can concentrate on publishing high-quality articles with proper internal linking and on page structure. Use social media to promote those articles and start building the backlinks slowly from the legit sites.
Don't build too many links in a short period. Drip feed them and don't overdo them with the exact match anchors.
