How to start a affiliate program for your own website?

I have an ecommerce dropshipping website hosted with bigcommerce that sells hat. I have got a guy who is interested in marketing my products if I got an affiliate program going. Is there a certain software that allows one to start an affiliate program in a jiffy? I am looking at this as a long term thing because I had a similar offer earlier as well. So, I am planning to try it. Any prior experience you have with any affiliate program software/tool/website?

I have been looking into this for my own website too. One solution that seems like the best to me is http://www.osiaffiliate.com/. I have not signed up yet though as I was hoping to find something cheaper still...

You could run some kind of private low scale program with some really primitive custom coded tracking.

There is also the fully hosted hasoffers.com.

Grace do you use it yourself? I have been thinking about it for months since I think I can really boost online sales with a program for my ecommerce site. The only problem after signing up is finding people that will join my program to promote my products
