I got my competitor's ip address from one of his/her websites. Is it possible to find out all web properties belonging to the same person from there? Assuming no proxies are used.

You can find their other websites using reverse whois look up.

Thanks for the help, mate. Much appreciated!

does this work if the sites have whois protection?

Just to clarify, i have the IP address of the person himself, not the webhost address. How do i use this to see what web properties he owns, etc?

All you can do with his ip address is get yourself into trouble.

Ok that's not my intention. I just want to do a bit of spying on the competition. I'm sure a lot of businesses do it..

Yes, big businesses spy on each other in order to find information that could ruin their competitor or help themselves. Small businesses usually just do competitive analysis reports. Here are a few easier ways to find their websites:

  • Searching the company name
  • Searching the owner's name
  • Searching through their inbound links (I'm sure many of them have connected their sites)
  • Searching their outbound links (for the same reason as before)
  • Searching their keywords (especially if they are in a relatively esoteric niche)

If I may ask OP, is the OWNER your competition or his WEBSITE? What would you do with HIS IP address? Track his browsing habits? A search engine company is already doing that.

no company name.. He builds niche sites.
never uses his own name for his properties. Cant find anything after doing a search
will try searching the links, great idea.
keywords not sure how to do this.

he uses whois protection so not a lot can be found from whois

well, i figured if i could get his ip address, i could just see which properties are registered using that ip, and therefore find out his overall approach and find a way to top him.

guess i had the wrong idea.. Thanks anyway
