how to setup nameserver

After you reinstalled, or not, you can try it without it again though:
- make nameservers at your registrar, use the 2 ip of your server, point the nameserver of this domain to itself
- go back to WHM, add them in the "basic settings..." menu, at the bottom, assign 1-1 ip to each
- Check "nameserver IP" menu in WHM , if both ip and nameserver IPs shows up it should be ok

Ok the server finished reinstalling. I have done steps one and two just now.

Nothing shows up in nameserver IP yet, I am guessing that has to wait till it resolves, to show up?

Thats for all the help, im not sure why this isn't working, it seems simple enough.

ok well 'nameservers ips' still does not show anything, but domainkeys/spf now recognize it! So thats a step in the right direction

I forgot to check back on this thread. I'm glad you're set in the right direction.

Ok, so as I said, the domainkeys/spf is recognizing the nameservers. 'nameservers ip' Doesnt show any ips yet. and a spf check from here doesnt show an spf record.
The last two take time to propogate correct?

But why is it that when I go into the "Advanced DNS Zone Editor" on the cpanel of my website, the ip's shown are not my ip. The spf record has my ip in it, but the rest are the ip's of my vpshost i think. Is this normal??

Why not just host your nameservers with someone that will be more reliable? (I'm not saying your VPS is going to go down, but it will go down more than DNS providers and at least then you still should have email - if hosted with Google or elsewhere.)

I use DNS Made Easy and Zoneedit for what gives me 100% uptime on my DNS. I can also add as many records as I want with no trouble.

I need to add domainKeys and spfRecords, and from my understanding I thought I had to have the nameservers on my vps

If you have tried lots of option without success, why not email support of the host? Most time when i can't get this sort of stuffs done by myself, i google it up or contact support they will surely help out.

The support just sent me a link on how to do it... The tutorial is about 20 pages , and is how to do it through ssh...

Anyone know if my advance dns editor settings are what it should be or if that wrong(situation explained before)

I wasn't completely sure, so I checked - I only use TXT, A Record, MX and CNAME - and they do. For the record DNS made easy has 100% uptime for the last 7 years I think. And since moving my DNS to a DNS host my downtime is really reduced.

EDIT: I also think namecheap have pretty comprehensive dns if they're your registrar, but their uptime will be nothing like the other 2 mentioned. (I suspect.)

But having a third party DNS (external) solution won't help him a bit. As he already stated, he needs to add domainKeys and spfRecords, and in order to do that he must have the NSs hosted on the same server. In other words, the OP isn't looking for reliability or redundancy but for usability for his purposes (ie. increasing email inboxing rate).

Ok I think everything got resolved.

I changed everything in advance dns editor to my ip. Now some time later when I do a spf record checker, everything checks out good! When I try to send a test email through cpanel webmail, I check the headers and see that there is a line that says domainkeys=pass . So I think that all works now!

Now the last thing to wait for is reverse dns. They messed it up last time, and just redid it to point to my domain.

Thanks for all the help guys!

To anyone looking at this thread and having the same troubles.... Just reinstall your vps and try it all over again... I did the exact same things this time, but it worked. So something was just messed up last time, even though I started from scratch.
