I had a dead group too. What worked for me was posting simple, useful content every day and asking questions people could easily answer. I also messaged a few old members to join the convo again. Took some time, but it slowly got active again.
 
Create interesting posts then use multiple nicknames to increase engagement on the posts. you might want to try running some real giveaways.
