How to remove Uncategorized category from wordpress?

How to remove Uncategorized category from wordpress? I could not find any option to delete it.

Go to Settings>Writing and set your default category to something else. Now, go to Posts>Categories and search for "uncategorized". The option to delete it will become available.

Alternatively, renaming "Uncategorized" is another solution.

I like to rename categories. it's easy.
Go to posts > categories and click on EDIT.

The best way is to rename it to a new category name.

I couldn't usually find the option to delete it too but like what Mr Zwielicht said, You could try renaming the category to something you need. That's what I always do.

You need at least one default category for stuff to go into so they don't make deleting it easy, best thing to do is just rename...don't forget the slug as well

as others have said, you can't delete it. Rename it or make sure nothing in in there and ignore it. It will only show in a post menu on your site if you use it. If you are making a custom menu, just don't add it and you'll be fine.

Never knew I could delete it. Thanks, boss. I always just renamed it.

Thanks bro, when i didn't find any option for me , I just renamed it.

Renaming is the best option. You can only delete the uncategorized category if you have more than one category on the site.

In wp-admin, you can rename the Uncategorized category any time. Just go to Posts > Categories and do it. In case you forgot to assign a post to any category WordPress will add that post to Uncategorized by default. That's why a default category is must.
To change a default category go to Settings > Writing.
Then choose the Default category whatever you want; but you have to add a new category from the Categories page first. Enjoy WordPress.
