How to Reduce CPA?

I have a Google Ads campaign that has been running for quite some time. My bid strategy is target CPA, and I am striving to optimize it to maximize profits. However, I've encountered an issue where my campaign only generates conversions when the CPA is high. Despite my efforts, I struggle to achieve profitability; it seems that my campaign spends $100 but only yields a profit of $105. When I attempt to lower the CPA, it either doesn't result in profit or only generates 1-3 conversions per day.

How can I address this issue? Could you please share any tips?

Maybe try tweaking your targeting or refreshing your ads a bit, it could help lower that CPA without losing conversions!

Focus on tightening targeting, improving landing pages, and testing different creatives—sometimes patience and small tweaks lower CPA better than big changes.

A few quick wins:
  • Refine targeting: Kill broad match unless you're filtering hard.
  • A/B test landing pages like crazy: Even small layout changes can drop CPA.
  • Use rules and scripts to pause underperformers early.
  • And don’t forget retargeting warm traffic is always cheaper to convert.

To boost profitability without sacrificing conversions entirely, focus on these:

1- Higher ad relevance and a super-optimized, fast landing page can drastically improve conversion rates and quality scores, allowing Google to find cheaper conversions.
Sometimes, being too narrow limits Google's ability to find efficient conversions. Experiment with slightly broader audiences or keywords, then use negative keywords aggressively to refine.

2- Look at what's happening after the click. Are users dropping off? Simplify the journey.

3- If you can assign different values to conversions, switch to a value-based bid strategy to chase higher-profit conversions.

Try tightening your audience targeting and improving ad relevance/landing page quality - it can lower CPA without killing volume. Also test different ad creatives and split campaigns by device or location. Sometimes even small tweaks make a big difference!

Try tightening your audience + adding high-intent keywords + testing SKAGs—lower CPA usually comes from sharper targeting, not just bidding tweaks.

Test narrower audiences, optimize your landing page, and pause low-converting keywords to bring CPA down without killing volume.

You need to start by looking at how you launched your campaign. Very often, campaigns need some time to go through the learning phase - ideally around 2 weeks. Only after the campaign has had time to understand the market and auctions should you consider setting a tCPA, especially if you're not happy with the current performance. If you set a tCPA right from the start, the campaign might struggle to perform.

Also, work on your keyword targeting. It’s possible that your niche is highly competitive, and the keywords you’re using are simply too expensive. Don’t forget to add negative keywords too, that can help reduce wasted spend.
