How to redirect a URL without redirecting backlinks?

Hi,

I'm working on a proposal for someone who's website has been smashed by google for numerous reasons. My question:

-how do I redirect his old URL (to a new URL) without redirecting his old spam backlinks? Is that what a 302 does?

BTW, the way I'm going to recover this bad boy is buying an aged niche related clean domain and doing a 301, adding massive content, huge social media presence, high PR press releases then backlink with niche web2.0s using naked and brand then teir 2 will be keywords. Pap Pap.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

I don't think you understand the difference between a 301 redirect and a 302. The easy way to explain this is 301 is a permanent redirect. 302 is a temporary redirect meaning you are saying "we'll be back soon".

Either way you won't be able to "NOT" redirect the backlinks when you make a redirect UNLESS you spend time there and disavow all the links that point to his previous domain.

But I'm not understanding man, why do you want to make this redirect from a penalized domain? Does he get traffic to that domain as a naked URL?

Getting an aged domain and backlinking that sounds like a plan and I don't think you need to do that redirect.

The easiest way would be to rel="nofollow" and rel="noindex" the old domain then 301 redirect as normal. This way the bots will see the redirect is for humans and not for passing juice.
This is still a bit risky and should only be used if you get lot of direct traffic from visitors that actually type in the old domain or follow your backlinks.
If this is not the case I wouldn't bother redirecting at all

You could use try a freelancer off BHW or Odesk it is very simple so shouldn't cost much.

I would try to do it yourself, with a little reading up and patience you will find it easy and it will help you with future projects as this type of thing an integral part of SEO whatever colour your hat is

If you don't want to mess with the code try the "WordPress Meta Robots" plugin

Or you could just block the bots access from robots.txt on the old domain....

All trough if you say that the visitors that he currently get are not from search engine but direct visits and to keep things clear, I will go and build a landing page where I announce that the website was moved to the new page and block all the bots with a robots.txt

Doing that you avoid the loose of credibility since once I try to visit a url that I type in the search bar and I get redirect to another url things aren't looking so trusty

Second this way you will make the visitors to start using the new domain and in time you can move the old domain on a dead line or play with it once everybody start to use the new domain.
