Hey!

What would be the best way to rank a long tail keyword using blogspot? I have seen blogs with one posts in them that rank at the top and would like to implement this myself.

By doing SEO.
Ranking a blogspot blog is just like ranking an usual website.
Choose an exact matching domain name, write a few words content and then build links.

Depends on the keyword as to how easy it would be, if possible. Build content, build links, same as any other page you want to rank.

When I started targeting long-tail keywords, I increased my search engine organic traffic to 173,336 visitors per month. You're missing out on a lot of search traffic if you're not creating blog posts around longer search queries.
I encourage you to go after long tail keywords, because they're easier and more profitable to target. For most of them, you won't face any significant competition.

That must have been a lot of long tail keywords :D But I agree with you.

Depends on the density and competition.
Sometimes a single article also does a lot of magic.

For long tails, I find unique content to be the foundation to ranking to it. The good thing about that is you won't have to worry about getting expensive links to make it rank, it will content easily in top 10 (assuming you do can churn out the basic GSA links).

Make sure to set the on-site right and post great content with the correct percentages.

Why blogspot? from experience I can tell you that I've always fiind it easier to rank in top with wordpress blogs then with blogspot

Well; like any other site, you have to choose perfect keyword; then write 10 quality posts (I don't think 1 post idea is good; if you are doing something, do it right); then start building back-links!

Make 3 Blogspot post on same niche and give 30 to 40 tier 2 links. That's all you need to do.

You can spend a week building 3 different BlogSpot sites and then trawl through these forums and come up with a unique action plan for each site. Then simply implement and see which works best. Then rinse and repeat.

Ranking a blogspot is not so difficult. You need to do the same that you will do for the other webpages.....
