If you just want to rank in UK, just set it in the webmaster's tools.
I have a site that is ranking #1 in Google US but then I'm not getting the visitors that I really expect so when I checked on the Google Insights, to my surprise, the majority of the traffic was focus on UK. By this time, I was also ranking on UK but on page 4.
So, I set UK on the GWT. After 4 days, I noticed a jump in traffic only to realize I was #4 in Google UK. Though, checking Google US, I was nowhere to be found.
