So you can game their algorithm by purchasing your own item from fake accounts. The accounts need to look legit (like, have some purchasing history) and of course you'll need to pay eBay's fees. But if you can successfully purchase your own item from many different accounts, you will dominate their rankings.

That’s correct for many ebay-like platforms. Just think about it: They see you get sales which means buyers are happy with you and gets you higher. Another tip is to offer something more than your competition. You can add something small which costs pennies, but buyer sees it as a bonus.

Investigate the seller jtrujillopaintings21. I believe he has figured out how to masterfully maniupalte search results. I'm not saying he isn't selling a legit product... but he's definately gaming the system. There are often a "buy it now" happening at the beginning and the end of his sales day. I believe those may be sales with a real financial transaction taking place, but they are planned and done for the purposes of manipulation.
