How to Rank Google Places?

I never really tried to rank a G00gle places page. My Dad is in real estate and I want to get him ranked higher. Is it through citations and regular backlinks?

reviews and images are important. also do the rest of the seo as you do for other websites. web 2.0,wiki, blog posts, bookmarks, etc
 
Also add the map to the about us page on your website this helps a bit, add your address to your footer as well
 
Try citations submission, because google ranks you more if it finds your address on many places. Now how to target keyword then try to use your keyword in link building process as same as we do for organic rankings!!!

Check out where your competition is listed and get n there
 
Look for a Google Places Cheat Sheet. I'm sure there's still a thread with it. Awesome guide for how to rank.
