Upvotes do help, but not always. If you plan to include links, don't, at least not for now, your answers will get hidden 100%. Ranking is simple really, the higher quality answer, the better.

Does it matter if acc is aged or new and if it has posts on it? So if I put links on quora I should not upvote it right?

number of previous posts and the reactions for those posts do affect. But instead of focusing on upvotes giving the proper answers does help more.

It boosts and will help a little bit.
The author's profile does matter, way more better if you focus on this.
