How to Rank - A Quick Guide for Newbies

Solid guide i think. Back in 2014, i did few things listed on this thread

However, i did some research on few keywords on Google recently. Mostly, top 10 sites that appear in search result are authority sites. Not just 'big' sites.

The sites contents are written by well known authors or real authors. Im sure Google put more power on this 'authority' stuff.

If I want to rank high, ill put more time on keywords research, and build the authority on myself and my sites. Then link building comes next.

Question: when measuring difficulty if amazon is ranking first that means medijm right? Since amazon is not into that specific niche?

Nice content for beginners like me. I had to search some terms though like CF, PR and stuff like that but apart from that, it is very informative.

it is valid also today after the penguin and panda era? (seo is still alive!!)
the tecnic of 10/20 web 3.0 blog site is still valid? the blog comments I think hasn't value today and google consider as spam

Big sites with high DA, like large newspapers, big stores, large affiliates sites with high DA, etc. For example, New York Times, BBC, Huffington Post, Washington Post, Buzzfeed, Amazon, Wirecutter (this is an example of an authority affiliate site), they are all authority sites. So the keyword is difficult if the SERP is full of these high DA large sites.

There is no DA above 100, because it's like a percentage metric.

Large media sites and shops have it somewhere above 80.
Large affiliate authority sites have it lower, even below 40-50, but it's still higher than many other, smaller affiliate sites.
DA is an assessment metric, it may not be entirely accurate, because it's not Google's own metric. So authority site has more to it than just high DA. It usually has more and better backlinks than other sites, more content, etc.
