* How to rank a keyword LOCALLY?

New to seo and aplying BHW tactics Ive got to #8 for certain KW globally,
but not for my country (rank #50)

Could it be because the comp. is stronger locally?

My hosting has US IP - If I try to rank this KW for other country, how should I proceed?

Any thing to tweak on the robots.txt or something ON-Site that says to google I want to rank for certain countries?

A solution could be to make a subdomain and then point the subdomain to the specific country in GWT.
 
The best way to rank for a country is to host the site in the country. Ranking into another country when you host in the us is like swimming against the flow, possible, but it takes more energy.

Also, use the TLD of the country you want to rank in (and don't forget to use the main language of the country if you want to be complete).

Do you have anything to back this statement up? Are you saying that by not using US hosting, one would rank much worse in the SERPs that all Americans see? I highly doubt that.

What I mean is, if you want to rank in Denmark, better have a hosting in Denmark (with an IP from Denmark), a domain with a TLD for Denmark and your website in Danish (best case scenario)

You can host in the US, have a .com (well, .com is a special case but let's say us for the example) and your website in plain english, but it will take more work to rank in Denmark than in the first case.

G gives preference to local sites for local searches.

I have no real proof, it's just my experience, doing seo for companies in europe and being based in the us. Sites based in the us always take more work when they want to rank locally.

Hey. I saw one of those matt $ucks videos on yt where he said so, he said a host/ip from the same country will help rank a site locally.

But I dont want to focus this Kw locally, I ranked it globally except in one country its #50 and I want to improve on that country too..

so how can I focus my seo efforts to climb on that rank too?

Ive read to get backlinks from that country, Ill implement it thks

anything else?

So in GWT you can set the site's country, or sites main target?
 
Hi, I noticed this effect very recently also. I actually did a test with several vpns, where I clicked on my link from different ips belonging to different locations, and I ranked for the ips of that country the next day. If you're already getting a decent number of visitors (10-20) a day, this effect would happen naturally within one to two weeks (since odds are a few people from your country would visit you, if you're anywhere near the first page) if not, you can try doing it manually.

It really depends on your keywords but at that point, I'd say this everything you're gonna do to rank locally may hurt your global rank, that's why I always recommend to my customers to have one website per country (and the main site linking to those sites).
