How to protect you site?

I had a niche site that was ranking on page one for my keyword but then i started getting trackback links from bunch of viagra and adult blogs, I use a wordpress blog for my niche. The first thing that ran through my mind was 'oh they just trying to get backlinks from me so I'll just delet them'

Then I left my blog alone, only commented on other peoples blogs 2-3 times per day. Couple days later I notice a HUGE drop in my traffic. So i check how well I rank for my keywords and Im nowhere on the first 7 pages. There is a post on page 8 from my blog but the domain itself is missing on +20 pages, I stoped checking after that.

I know this can't be because of anything that I did because my website was whitehat. Only thing I automated was bookmark couple posts, and I haven't done that for couple weeks. All my other pages rank somewhat on their searches but they droped 3-5 positions that they used to have and my domain is completly gone for all keywords.

I think it was because one of my competitors simply spammed my domain on those linkfarm websites so google dropped me. How can I protect myself from this in the future? How can I get my domain back to page 1, if it is even possible?

how old is your domain? is the webpage new? Maybe google just put it into sandbox It also happened to me You will be back in abou 3-4 weeks !

Thanks for your reply, Its about two months old. I was initially thinking the same thing, that it was just put in sandbox, but after reading a lot of posts here some users say there is no such thing so I wanted to see what rest of the people have to say about it.

If I'm in the gsandbox what should I do? Work on other niches and let this one just sit there? Or should I continue working on this too as if nothing happened?

if you are in a sandbox, you can not dop anything.... You have to wait, until google release your website away!

Try to find a suitable wordpress plugin for this. There should be a trackback blocker or smth similar.

unfortunately still scumbags witch are doing such type of jobs exist you have nothing to do ... just wait and if you get your blog banned by G' request re inclusion and explain them what happened
