Hello my friends,

I just created my first ever ebook and I'm going to sell this ebook on my website.

I have a question, how can I protect my ebook from not getting shared?

Do I need to use watermark? If yes, maybe do you have any suggestions how should I do it?

I have created my ebook on designrr software but they does not have a built in watermark tool

Make a personalized copy of the ebook for each of the buyers.

Put so much info about the buyers on it (their name, paypal email, IP etc as Headers, Footers, Watermark) so that they find it in their best interest not to share / leak it anywhere.

Also, it'll help you to easily identify / patch, if any whatsoever :)

Thanks for you answer!

But can I still do it if I'm going to sell my ebook on my website on woocomerce? I thought that when the buyer makes a payment he gets the ebook automatically to his email. Sorry if it's a dumb question, but it's my first time when I'm selling something on wordpress and I still do not know how the whole process works.

Here you go OP.. watermark your eBook with your domain name..

It is a good question actually. What I do in this case would be Generate random 20-30 digit strings, we'll call them LICENSE KEYS. Then sell them. Anyone who purchases your ebook will get a unique license key in their email which they'll have to show / email / skype to you to get their personal copy.
yes, it'll take more time but its a good way to prevent leaks. All depends on your priorities :)

You can't stop to share. But by this method , you could know who leaking your info
I didn't want it to come to this but here's the extreme solution:- :D

This tool restricts ebook to a single HWID and hence no one else can use / open it!

DRM definitively. I've tried to break a book I got from my bookstore and it's impossible as it's protected by some Apple software.

People can always repurpose your book, dont worry about getting your book leaked, because its not something you can fully control. Every popular book gets leaked no matter what, but people still buy books from Amazon, google book and barnes and noble, right.

The movies get leaked, netflix shows get torrented but still the people pay subscription to netflix.

+1 Totally agree!

I can't see how watermarking will prevent people from leaking it.
If I was you I won't bother, because this is a part of selling information products. You better accept it.
Otherwise, follow the advice of @Almighty Pull

Honestly, be a little creative if you will ;)

This can be easily restricted using this:-
https://www.pdf2go.com/protect-pdf
We can restrict printing, copy & Modifying.

Now, after this, there are only 2 options left:-
1. Taking Screenshots but we have a watermark with customer info
2. Type it word to word (Well, this can't be helped other than using http://armjisoft.com/pdf-drm-ownerguard/ )
Cheers!

There are softwares that allow you to pickup words from a image.

Protecting Written content from getting plagiarized completely is impossible.

It doesn't matter if it is Copy protected.
I've duplicated PDFs that were copy protected and still managed to create a new Document out of it.
If someone wants to copy/leak a PDF he will. Doesn't matter what protection you've on it.

Not a chance. You may be able to protect it from noobs who want to share it. But you have no chance if someone really wants to share it.
The Watermarks are great. But you can remove most of them with Callibre or similar programs.

Given that you cannot prevent your book from being shared, you may have to start looking at it from a positive point of view, because if your book is quite good, readers will look for more of its content.

Putting the watermark will not make any difference.

Actually you cannot completely protect it, but you can use some license keys + you can sue people who are sharing it if you have all the rights of it, or at least contact them to remove it.

It's impossible to protect it. You should just sneak in your website URL so you could at least get free traffic.
