how to prevent annoying calls?

Two things you can do to make a difference.
Answer the call and tell them to take you off their calling list. They have to comply. The FCC rules for calls are very strict. These people know they can easily get tens of thousands of dollars in fines for not complying. There's people on youtube like you and me who boast about catching these call centers violating your rights. You are entitled to a cash settlement for them violating it. While this helps stop that one company from calling you, your phone number generally gets sold to several companies. It's a matter of time before the next company calls you.
On Android & iPhone there's an app called https://www.truecaller.com/ I put it on all my phones. The free tier is good enough. Spam callers are usually tagged as spam. You see that on the incoming call screen. There's also a feature for you to blacklist a number from calling you. Once blacklisted, your phone will not ring & the call will be automatically denied. There's deeper features such as automatically blocking any caller not in your address book. All available on the free tier.

even landlines susceptible to same bullshit
gotta be real careful writing your number on all those websites that ask for it. eventually it gets sold/shared/leaked and youre getting spam just like email.

Hiya is another great spam call filtering tool to help prevent and minimize this in the future. Sometimes they give the name of the caller too. There are so many now, just google search for “spam call filtering” will return a bunch of results.
If its a buisness calling, they run the risk of thier phone numbers being flagged as scam likely and can become very expensive to fix. As mentioned above you can report through TrueCaller, hiya of any of the major cellular carriers now which would more than result in the number becoming flagged, especially these days.

Avoid using your personal phone number for registering on websites i always use a dummy number data is either compromise or sold

3. if you want to keep using that same number or phone then, use a DND app or the pre-installed one that most phone probably have.
add/Fav everyone who you care about, and everyone whoever not on that list gets put on ignore mode
