How to pick domain name same with competitor?

Hi I had just check a domain name,
competitor domain name is xxxxxx.com.xx
and i would like to buy a domain name same with him but is xxx-xxx.com.xx
the domain name same but I add a -
is this good idea for seo?
the competitor keyword is page 1, if I buy the domain will like him become page 1? the domain name is the keyword

The kw in the domain name is not that important anymore for SEO.

I mean, if you buy the "shoe-discount.com" domain doesn't mean that it will rank on page just because it has kws in it.

The only benefit for such a domain is that it helps people understand what the website is about.

But, in the end, you still need to do your SEO work and improve your website's marketing, the kw in domain won't do it.

This is not a good practice to be on Top Ranking. You can choose a better and relevant domain name with your service. Just think your domain name should be short and should match with your service.
