Hey, I've been trying to overtake this ad with the same display url as me. I've upped my bid to the extremes, like 5000 max CPC and it still won't overtake it, basically I've tried the max cpc, maybe higher than that, I think google has a limit on max CPC. Maybe this approach is not right, anyone know how to overtake an ad on adwords?

this has many factors named :

1. Landing Page Experience
2. Do you have TOS, About Page, Privacy Policy, Contact Us.
3. It helps to get a low cpc and good score if you put real address and contact number on your landing page
3. Does your page load fast?
4. What place are your targeting?
5. Do you show your ads the whole time or you schedule it?
6. Do you use your keywords well with your ad copy?
7. Does your adcopy keywords reflect the keywords in your landing page?

There are several reasons why you can't change your ad rank. But a good adcopy will beat an ad at #1 spot.

What I will advise you is to
1= Improve your quality score
2= Build authority with your site, (contact us, tos, privacy policy, about us and SOME AUTHORITY BACKLINKS)
3= Look at your ctr rate, try to improve it
4 = Make your Ad more relevant
5= Delete those keywords which are not working for you and reducing your ctr.

Voila, you will see the difference!

Rep me if you like it

... same display url as me ...

Just a little confused, how can someone else have a URL same as yours? (Google requires that the display URL must be the same domain as the final page, the user is sent to)

So, in order for both the account to have the same display URL, you must own the same domain.

They are both running advertising for the same company, and his ad falls below.
I agree, your issue is not the bid.
What you can try, is copy what your competitor is doing on their site. Do some research, use tools like SEMruch, etc. to gain as much insight on the issue as possible, improve your website accordingly.

Add some unique and fresh content in your ad.. and share it on various social networking websites, social bookmarking websites, ...

hope it helps to you ...

Your ad copy needs to perform better than theirs.

Copy their ad word for word and use that as your control ad copy.

Then test different ad copy until you have an ad that has a higher CTR than the competitors ad copy.

If you run into writers block and need some different words, try boostctr dot com.
