How to optimize your website ?

It is a trend that more and more companies are paying special attention on the optimization of website .
Some person say do SEO ,some person say try to be friendly to search engine with good content ,some person say updata your site frequenly . In all ,all of these are to improve your site traffic.
But recently ,I heard to increase the outter link also can greatly improve the PR value and thus impore the traffic.
So may I ask how many people are using this way ? And usually where do you find the relate site to exchange the friend link with them?
Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

All of things you mentioned (i.e. creating great content, optimizing a website, adding content frequently) are all a part of Search Engine Optimization. The "outer link" that you mentioned is known as backlink building and is an offsite tactic of SEO.

You might try suggesting a collaborative content effort with them or simply asking to guest post on their site or even just place a link there.

I am new here, so I could be off base, but I don't think just exchanging a "friend link" will get you very far. Blogrolls and reciprocal links in my understanding are pretty low value. Build one-way links through comments and guest posts, as TheContentAuthority mentioned. Doing so in a relevant niche will help build your authority and may even bring you traffic directly.
