How to optimize blogspot for search engine?

Yesterday, one of my lil cousin asked me a question how can he optimize his blogspot blog? As I am habituated in WP I don't have any idea about Blogger. What do you think?

He is now running wordpress recourse blog (:p in blogger). and Have a Google adsence account. He wants to earn money from this. He said his daily average page view is only 30.

BTW he is only 15 now :) :)

You can make your blogspot blog search engine friendly, by editing the html, and adding what they call "meta tag and title tag" this will optimise all your pages. And increase your ranking. [use google and search for how to add title tag and meta tag to blogger blog]

* Also submit your blogger url to atleast 20 social directory and social bookmarking sites.

* submit your blogger Rss feed to rss feed sites like feedage and feedagg.

* Comment on high page rank blogs with your blogger url with your keyword as anchor test.

After doing all this, you can easily rank any blog as long as you always update it with New and Unique contents.

Too add to what he said, you can add a javascript code that will add the "share" buttons/icons at the bottom of each post, which can come in handy for bookmarking after each post.
 
I have a blogspot that ranks #1 in all my keywords. There is no need to add meta tags. Just make sure you opt the blog with ur desired keywords. and do lots backlinking. works just the same as wp.

Yeah you might be right, but i don't feel comfortable without adding meta tag to my blog.

Blogspot is naturally optimized for Google as far meta tags and little things like that there really isn't anything special to add in. If he is running a legit blog, don't worry about doing anything extra. A legit Blogspot blog will get good rankings naturally.
 
I agree with Kickflip. You can forget about optimization your blogspot but You need to more BL and promotion on social networks.

Just Social Bookmarking is the main thing. Every time a new post is made, Social Bookmark to several sites by hand is fine like Digg and Reddit. I get very good results from Blogspot blogs just Social Bookmarking.
 
Here's what i do with my blogspot.

1.Register to onlywire.com (free) Fill up their 47-49 services. you must go to this 47-49 sites and register. It is like a semi-automated tool. once you put the info of you are trying to promote, it will submit it to all the services that you have successfully signed up for.

2. Bookmark my new post. even though you have done it with onlywire. bookmarking it manually is still far better than semi automated tools.

3. Create tumblr account and everytime you have a new content get an 1-2 sentence out of your blogspot and put it on your tumblr blog. there's a portion there that you can put your source on it.

4. Create facebook fan page of your blogspot. and let your friends know of it. same as tumblr every time you have a new post, cut a portion of your content and post it also in your fan page.

lastly

5. Tweet it. Create a twitter account for your blogspot and (you already know what do people do in twitter.. :D )

so what do you guys think for doing a brand new site that you want to rank within a few weeks/aroudn amonth:
- go for a blogger blog
- or brand new .com.net.org
I guess authority wise we can put more effort in blogspot in a shorter time or does it not matter at all from your experiences?

fore the keyword there is already a blogspot at #1 and now without yse I have a hard time recreating the links( just trying with seomoz and free majesticseo).

From my experience Blogger will naturally rank higher in a short period of time. But also consider that if you get #2 spot with a .com or .net etc, and the #1 is a Blogspot, maybe people will trust you more and give you more clicks because your site looks more official. And of course there is no guarantees of #1 position so keep that in mind.
 
yeah sure there are no guarantees at all. I would plan to utilize more sites regardless but want to see something rank faster. I guess ill just try a few blogspot as well.
Did any of you do a comparison between blogspot and other web2.0 before? I would assume blogspot would rank better with the same effort but maybe i am wrong.

Did any of your blogspots ever get deindexed or got a -50 penalty?

definitely do your research on keywords. make sure they're low competition but high traffic
 
When I started "IM" I was only 5teen years old and I guess he should not ask questions to you instead of that he should search on Google or he can join BHW, there are a lot of guides on bhw about starting a new blog.
