That article sucks, auto ad sucks, it will not maximize your revenue.
That article is for "website" not for blog.
We do blogging over here at bhw which google hates.

Added 2 in article ads on one blog along with auto ad, let's see what happens.

I would advise to remove them. Use revcintent till your site grows. Why once you’re banned without any reason no top ad network will take you.

Google is doing ad limited account and not banning these days anyways and you can easily get out of it.

Do A/B Testing. Try 50% Auto Ads Display. I usually add 5-10 ad slot on a 2k+ article manually. And sometimes depends on the niche and the visitors geo. I been testing out a lot this adsense optimization. even blocking low paying ads. but the only thing works for me is less ad slot less imps but the revenue is good.
No, don't. It will make your earnings low.
Install Microsoft heatmap tracker to se which position is the best for your layout and try to minimize number of ads displayed(fast load) that not optimal
