Hey there,

This may be my first post on BHW but I have been here for awhile. Recently I have been coming across a few posts claiming that people have been hacked and their pp funds stolen.

We all know that pp won't do shit if you lose money from funds (if they take it from a credit card then your cc company can step in)

Here are my tips for securing your account on paypal.

The first 1-2 are common knowledge.

1. Use a password that is alphanumerical and is longer than 8 characters.
2. Attach a security pin/code to your paypal account.
3. Do not make your secret questions obvious eg. Where was your mother born? You could even swaps the answers around for the 2 secret questions, so answer 1 would actually be the answer to question 2 and vice versa.
4. VERY IMPORTANT - NEVER USE HOTMAIL ACCOUNTS FOR PAYPAL!! I can't stress this enough, hotmail is incredibly easy to hack, trust me, I use to do it (not stealing paypal or doing anything like that) just simply to test securuity on my friends account with his permission. I suggest using gmail as it much harder to break into their accounts.
5. Do not use the same password for both your email and paypal account, if someone happens to keylog you or guess your password (unlikely) then their next step would be to try that password on your paypal account (if they found out you had one). Do not even give them that chance!

People who have hotmail accounts attached to their paypal account can't understand how they got hacked when their virus scan shows up with 0 infections/keyloggers.

This is because viruses are not needed. I will not reveal how to break into accounts because it is illegal (obviously)

Take the appropriate procautions when setting up your paypal account to ensure that you do not lose your hard-earned cash.

Stay safe.

Matt.

When using free proxies, do not log in to your paypal account

do not login to your paypal account from public computers which is shared by many

oooh informative......Thanks bro...Really A great thread... :)

Thanks.

@csg - Thank you for the extra input :)

There are more ways to keep your account secure, but it is mostly common sense. The point I was trying to stress here was to never use hotmail.

Also donot download files from warez forums. I used to do it once. hacker got all my passwords. But my luck he was kind enough to contact me and told me to change all my passwords. ;)

There is anti-keylogger software out there, but you have to pay for it. By anti-keylogger I do not just mean any virus scanning software, this software claims to be able to delete all your strokes before a keylogger can record it.

That is another possibility to securing your PC, just use the 'Big G' to search for it, the cost may be a bit though :(

Yep dude, keyloggers are really a pain in the ass. no way to kick the fuckers who trying to steal away our hard earned cash :(

There is a way, just do not download sus files. Especially from people you do not know. Most of the smaller files I download I scan with virustotal anyway, but I have a rule, If I can manage to do whatever it is I am doing without this program, then I won't download it.

here's a couple more

6) Use a Secure internet connection
7) Use a firewall that blocks connections from your computer to third parties
8) Be sure to keep all your computers security updates "up to date"

Thank you stevo, I see it more commonly nowadays, people are having their paypal accounts broken into and balances' stolen, and since pp do not want to do anything about it, you will need to protect yourself.

If I was a hacker I could clear 1-2k per WEEK from accounts.
Luckily for me, I'm not stupid enough to risk that just for a little bit of money and I do believe in bad karma.

of course it is very useful info, but here are mine:

1. don't use paypal!
2. but if you have to, always transfer your money to a safe place, buy sg sexy for your gf eg. whenever you get a bigger payment
3. or just don't store more money on your paypal account than necessarily needed (in my case it is never more than 100$)

...so if it is hacked you don't give a fuck :D

That is true, I never keep money in my PP account, not just for hackers but PP seems to shut down accounts for any reason.

If you think you have a keylogger use your on screen keyboard accessories>accessability>on screen keyboard in xp. accessories>Ease of Access>on screen keyboard in vista as this circumvents the keylogger.

thanks mate for the tip,

1 question, how to change paypal email? cause i'm using yahoo mail and i want to change it to gmail..

It is good to see that I have helped atleast one person further secure their hard-earned money.

YES! That was another thing I forgot to mention, but still, if you have hotmail then a keylogger is not needed to break in. But still good advice.

Using the onscreen keyboard until you get the infection out of your system.

Paypal should implement something like this but for a random 4-digit code (just like in maple story) :)

For me nothing beats using high secure firewall, its impossible to keylog anyfile. when it comes to online guard, i like KS firewall, Avira firewall damn strong and thorough.

Just make sure your firewall are good and strong, secondly the new firefox 3.5 enable us to browse the net on private mode, which is a damn nice updates on 3.5, it never logs any history nor cookies just plain privacy you can enjoy, nothing left on browser when you switch on to normal browsing.
