I already know these guys through volunteer work I do. They run the volunteer role and have expressed interest they would like to JV with me in some sense as they know I do IM.
Initially I shunned it but they are so knowledgeable in the niche. They have a huge wealth of content which I think would be really valuable if they took to writing it down. I want to help the cause and see it thrive so I was thinking it could be win win.
This would be a for profit thing with normal CPA on a website with their content.
But I am just wondering how I could propose it to be least investment (I don't mean monetary but time etc.) as possible and to tell them at the outset that I don't want big commitment. It is not that I don't want to work but just I want to do babysteps to begin to see how it works without giving any false expectations to live up to.
What I am thinking is they would write articles and I would promote by dealing with the website SEO and social media parts.
We currently have a really good relationship so I would not want to spoil that. They are really easy going guys so I doubt it would be a problem but you know when money comes into the matters things can easily go sour.
So how would you propose to pitch it to them such that there are no false expectations and so I could walk away at any time without hard feelings? I say the latter just because I haven't done JVs for years and have backed out of many since the last one and sometimes pissed people off because of that.
It is a bit different in this case though because I really believe in what they do and would want to see it succeed but still don't wanna be overly burdened by the workload. I prefer the idea of doing it in a modular fashion so then I can choose to continue or not at each step of the way.
I suppose just telling them frankly what I have said above would give them good forewarning and they could then choose to proceed or not with me having briefed them on it. There wouldn't be any money at stake to start it I think (bar the few bucks for domain, hosting etc.), just the time it took them to write the articles, and likewise my time doing the IM, so it would just be a try and see type of thing for all parties involved I guess.
