How To Monetize This Site

My current employer has a bunch of websites one of which is very popular in Russia. It gets anywhere from 30,000 - 50,000 unique visitors per day. He showed me the actual Google Analytics so I know he's not bsing.

Right now he is only using advertisements on the website and generating about $50,000 USD/month.

How else can one monetize a huge website like that? Anyone have any experience working with Russian websites and with the Russian market?

Not afraid about giving away the niche and type of website: It is a recipe database where people upload their own and rate other peoples.

Content locking, Amazon affiliate links to cooking utensils and tools, email list where you offer value and then every like five emails you send an offer, cooking classes taught through video and selling monthly subscriptions for viewing, sponsored articles, premium recipes, monthly subscription for receiving fresh food to cook various recipes with through local farmers and ranchers that you coordinate with.

This was come up with in less than a minute. It's easy to come up with ideas if you just try.

So he is making $50 000 USD / month from this website and is working for you ???? How much did you pay him... LOL i want to work for you dud
 
Is there a russian equivalent to Amazon where he could link out to products to get affiliate commissions. Could get some quite high product costs in there like microwaves, ovens, blenders etc.
 
I have created and sold a few websites in this niche and Amazon works great as a user mentioned above for cooking utensils and things of that nature. If the recipe database is large enough, it might be lucrative to take the best recipes and print them into a physical book for sale on the site.
 
Build an email list! you are losing money with that many visitors if you dont collect emails. this way you have targeted emails you can send offers to for extra income
 
Any cooking appliances affiliates out there will be suited for you, which i'm sure there are in that category.

There are over 100,000 recipes - thats a good idea - maybe even a great opt in giveaway for the email list!

Well I have no way of actually knowing that, but I did see the GA which had 15kk/month

Yeah I agree with you Ventio and in my opinion the aesthetics of the site is terrible as well....it really is a gold mine that is completely untapped

I suggested this to my boss, but he said how in Russia it doesn't work that way - not sure what he meant. I'm going to bring it up again. In Soviet Russia Affiliates Sell You!
 
He did say that he gets about 150k of the traffic/month from the US, but it's not developed and not ranking in Google at all. In Russia it ranks #1 on Yandex.

He also said that he will put me in charge of the US traffic and marketing. If you are interested in working on something this large feel free to PM me with what you can offer. I am always open to JVs.
 
god dam 50k a month?! how much more do you need! your just being greedy now lol
 
Depending on the keyword that traffic is prob making 5k-10k a month. Your traffic sources are important because the income will drop if it is the same IP addresses popping in for a visit. It's much like FORUM traffic at that point.
