    Hey people!

Long story short, I came across an email list of around 12K people but I'm having problems figuring out a way to actually monetize it. I was thinking about doing solo ads but Ive never emailed a single person on the list so there wont be any trust between us.

    Open to all suggestions!

    Thanks

You can try filtering out the list first?
Try sending a email offering some sort of value but.. really you're just making them opt in.
Direct them to your landing page for opt ins and you can create a new email list from that.

Do you think the opt in form should be generic like "positive news of the day?" or should it me more specific? The emails that are in the list are from customers of a restaurant.

I was thinking about doing restaurant of the day and selling clicks to local restaurants?

    Thanks for the help!

I have been monetizing purchased data for 16+ years.

    12K is a tiny list.

Do you know anything about it? how old, is it targeted, etc...?

In general when I monetize data, I send PPL (pay per lead) offers because there is no credit card / purchase required. All a user has to do is fill out a form to get paid, so conversion rates are typically much higher than offers that require a purchase.

I also promote free sign-ups(dating for example) and free trials + s&h (weight loss, ecig, etc...) with the free trials the user is usually paying like $4.99 shipping and handling, but they are getting something that would normally have an upfront cost of like $50-$60, so conversion are still pretty good.

Lastly I send a limited amount of offers that are 100% purchases. They are typically offers where the user is saving money on something very popular, is something new/novelty or solves a house is on fire type problem. Ideally you don't want something that is similar to exist locally or it may not convert well.

In the end, it's all about sending offers that have mass appeal...will likely be of interest to very large audience and in most cases, free is better than something they have to pay for.

You want offers that create the path of least resistance to get conversions and convert the data into cash producing assets.

Wow great insight full information thanks! The only thing i know is the list originated from a restaurant here locally. Ill try the PPL method and see if that works if not I have a fabric protection can that might convert well with them ill make a nice sales page and see what happens. Would this be considered spam or should I give them a option to "unsubscribe"?

Yes, you will want to be can-spam compliant and have unsubscribe and a valid mailing address.

fabric protection? I'm pretty sure I can go a Walmart and buy such. Personally, I would never waste my time sending such.

You could go around to other local restaurants and see if they will pay you to send a mailing with their coupon.

Gotcha! No, the product that we sell is a 1000 times better than the store bought ones but that's a different story. Yeah I'll look into talking to different local restaurants to see if they are interested, last question is what kind of metrics can I show the customer to prove that people are opening and reading the email?

    Thanks

Try to sell them a $1 product first to know if they are "money worthy". Then, filter the ones who bought and create a "buyer's list". I would try to sell them cook-books, recipes, food deals,... anything.
It's a small list, but you could make $500/month from it.

Until you mail, you don't have any metrics to show.

There are much easier ways to get into the data monetization business and send to fresh / targeted data and be able to scale and have the potential to make a significant sustainable income.
