How to migrate wordpress host

I've created a tube site using word press (was more of a test thing i was doing and not really serious when i began) but anyway it turned to be to pretty dam good and my god the current host is terrible. Every 2 days my account is taken hostage and told to pay or else my site wont be accessible for 12-24 hours (LOL :yield. I tried paying but beforehand i decided to compare the freehosting plan with the payed hosting plan and my god there was very little diffrence. Anyway i did a little research on google and found i wasnt alone!

Does any1 know how to switch my host to a more established company like hostgator while keeping post, uploads, comments, users, etc

export the mysql database through phpmyadmin, then import it at the new host
copy the whole wordpress folder from the old server to the new one

thats it.. if your mysql database info is different in the new host, simply edit wp-config.php

They've taken the account completly and refuse to grant access unless i pay so i cant even access WP admin. I managed to create a backup few days ago and have uploaded the backup on the new host. But where do i upload the database?

I've managed to get it working, all customizations, plugins etc are there but post and images are gone

did you backup the database ? if yes you should be able to import it

If you backed up the site but not the database then you have the wp-config file with the database login info, right?

Set up phpmyadmin on your new host but point it to the old database and see if you can get in. If so, then you can export the DB and install on the new site.

If not, then it might be worth paying one months ransom to get your site back up, get your db contents and then walk away.

Think that is probably the best thing to do.
