How to make your post go viral?

I have built a website that I update with 'viral content' - similar to the posts you see on buzzfeed.
Thought I'm confident that the content that I post on my site is worth going viral, I'm not sure what else is missing.

I have a FB page with about 8K fans - built slowly over time - not fake likes. But the post reach is at the max about 5%. Going by Google Analytics, I get about 100 visits a day. Desperate to improve traffic as this is not even close to what I aspire to have.

Should I chuck FB and try alternative methods - Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter or Vine?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Instagram, pinterest and Twitter is also under the roof of social network.
To get higher engagement cross promote your content in all social networks with attractive posts.
Once after posting your content in the site, share that post in Google plus. This will be certainly helpful to gain new visitors.
Post your site in various communities and Facebook groups.
