So I have an issue where my video ads are opening up inside X's in app browser instead of redirecting straight to the link, specifically a youtube video,

example here:

this is causing the video to not play, and an extra step for the person who views the ad.
with an image ad it directly opens up the youtube link and starts playing. How can I make that happen for a video ad?

would really appreciate some help with this! I've tried using a smartlink, but not sure if I have it setup properly.

Thanks a ton guys!

That’s a pretty common issue with video ads on X since the in app browser takes over. A workaround is adjusting the final URL setup like using a smartlink or redirect that forces it to open outside the app.

Another option is testing different CTA formats such as “Watch on YouTube” which sometimes trigger the native app instead. Have you tried experimenting with YouTube short links or deep links?

That’s just how X’s in-app browser handles video ads — it forces them inside instead of redirecting. With image ads linking to YouTube, it opens cleaner because it’s treated as an external link. To get the same effect, you’ll need to use a click-to-link format (image or carousel) that points directly to the YouTube URL. Smartlinks usually won’t fix it since the platform controls the behavior. Best workaround is to run an image ad with the YouTube link as the CTA.

There's a tool called taap.it that does that. Basically, it uses deeplinks to open it directly through the app or force the browser to open. Some of our clients use it on X and IG. It seems to work well for them.

nice! I'll give this a try as two other smartlink/deeplink sites didn't work at all

You don’t really have full control over it—apps like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok usually force links to open inside their own browser. The best you can do is add an “open in browser” button on your page or try a redirect/deep link, but it won’t work the same on every phone.

there's always a way, at the very least I just need to get the video to autoplay, instead of the ad above it playing once the ad is clicked

anyone have an idea on how Verizon's ad is doing this on mobile? Even Ad Support won't give me a straight answer just deflecting like it's some hidden secret

I'm willing to pay someone to fix this simple issue, where can I go about posting for that? If Verizon can make their ad auto redirect it's possible. DM if you have a solution, if it works after testing, I'll compensate happily.

still having this issue and still willing to pay someone to solve it - refer to the verizon ad in my previous post for what I'm needing on mobile devices

Here's Ad Support admitting Verizon's ad is doing this but refusing to talk about it any further
