So I have two products, two physical books.

How do I make money using youtube? In how far does the youtube api help?

Is it about creating videos showing you presenting your product?
Is it about following people, being their "fan" like in twitter?

And in general: Is youtube a good platform for free advertising?

Try searching youtube for your products keywords and see what others are doing.
check out the views subscribers etc...Could be the niche is wide open but maybe no money. Or maybe Good money, jump in test some vids and youll see.

And Yes Youtube is the best platform for free advertising
