As a programmer and software developer, what's the methods of making extra income in 2023 (white hat or black hat)?

My skills include developing mobile apps/websites, automation scripts

I know these self-evident methods

like developing mobile apps, websites, or freelancing work

however the market is so competitive to build something alone and succeed
same for freelancing work, cannot get a single job from months in my top-rated Upwork account

Any new methods even if black hat?

I see that BHW's Hire a Freelancer forum still has a lot of posts looking for developers for their business
But usually, I would tend to hire a group of people rather than hire an independent person. You can try finding acquaintances and forming a group?

The startup niche is a long term game that you can consider. There are many founders looking for technical teams if you look around. I'm bootstrapping my first project but it's slow when you have bills to take care of as well.

You can do freelance work for clients. You already have the necessary skills.

You can buy jr vip here and create a BST here for developing apps and websites.

I totally agree that the space has become very competitive, especially for freelancing. Unless you are from a very low cost of living country, it is easy to get crushed on pricing alone.
Building and selling your own product/service seems more attractive to me given the above, but finding that niche is super hard because the low-hanging fruit has mostly been picked already. For example, I had previously considered building a cloaker, but it seems like there are already some pretty good market leaders out there with extensive features (which means building 'me too' type features will be expensive but probably required to compete). One way could be to offer a service at a much lower price point than the market leaders when you first start off. I kinda stopped my investigation of cloakers (in this example) once I heard from someone that someone else who made a cloaker before got sued by Meta...which sounds expensive haha.

You could make custom made bots for people. Could be scrapers, chat-bots, etc.
