How to make a website go viral?

So lets say you have the next great idea for a website. You've spent alot of time building the website and debugging it. It now works great and you are ready to show the world. Only one problem: Getting the word out is difficult, lots of competition.

So how exactly does one go about making a website go viral. Lets assume you have 1,000$ to achieve this goal.

What do you do?
 
Advertise on BHW
Create a freebie for facebook fans in your facebook page letting the world know about your website, ask them to share so they have a chance to get the freebie
 
Facebook fanpage these days work tremendously well for getting the word out about your new viral site. I'd invest half of the money in a Facebook campaign to get real likes. And save the rest half for the future.
 
I'd just say invest in a SEO company, guess they charge $400.00 or so..google em and give em a shot..ur site should gain quality traffic with time ;)
 
This question is really so vague that it's smelling of spoonfeeding.

You set up no limitations, you set up no niche, no nothing.

Basically I could suggest that you give out a free car to everyone that joins. If it was easy to get stuff to go viral, we'd all be millionaires.
 
$1000=online press releases, youtube video promotion, social marketing, seo services etc.. etc...
 
Giving away some freebies and offers that related to freebies should be ok as long as people love free stuff. Should get a boost quickly

But how do you do that on the landing page? All I have seen is having to pay some good money to have the possibility of unlocking content on your FB fan page. Is there any way to do this without dishing out money?

I am using the Woobox application and I believe that unlocking content was possible before FB changed the Iframes for landing pages. It'd be great if any of you could recommend how to unlock this content for those who become fans.
 
You need a publication about that on major sites. Which have alexa < 1000. I can get it done if you have good budget.
 
You could try advertising on stumbleupon. I don't know your niche, but if your site is good it could go viral easily there.
 
Your idea is not as cool as you think it was, and no matter how much money you spend, it more than likely won't go viral.
 
Now the most viral i think is the NBA star call Jeremy Lin. Almost see him everywhere on internet and news as well...

No, the question is designed that way. Its suppose to be open ended so people share a variety of ideas.

IMHO I say hiring an SEO company and making a solid facebook fanpage is a great way to make your website more famous. Focus on making great content and website design so your traffic keeps coming back.
