If you take my words, don't! Get the person to send you the signed contract via snail mail. It may not be legally valid in many countries unless the contract is not physically signed (obviously, it is not limited to that only). I suggest that you contact a lawyer and see if it is valid for your cause, before you go for the digital contract.

I've done it multiple ways.
- I've travelled to the locations of my clients, sat down with them, and had them sign the contracts in person.
- Send the contract via email and ask them to print it out, sign it, scan it, and email it back to you. I do this when I don't have time to travel and a medium-sized company I worked with did with their clients as well.
- If they have a Wacom tablet, they can sign it digitally. I do this occasionally.
