How to lower google search ranking for negative PR

Hello, I work with a new company that has recently had some bad press released online. Becuase we are such a new company this negative article is showing up 3rd in a particularly important keyword. Would anybody be able to give me advice or assistance on how to lower the ranking or completely unlist the article from google searches? We are ready to pay for results. Thank you!
