Here's a thread for you.
Check the reply from Zak_A. The URl he gives out talks about a GA tweak that will measure your bounce rate better. I've been using it and it has helped greatly to reduce my bounce rate. 45% bounce is not that bad though.

Add the plugin that shows related posts just below the post user is reading, this will help to retain them on your site and hence will lower your bounce rate. Make the site user friendly and easy to navigate so that they can move from one page to another easily.

Sometimes there's nothing you can do...
Take Reddit for example, 95% bounce rate, nothing will keep their interest.
Take Google, people searching for stupid long tail phrases w/ no relation to your site, just similar keywords, so they bounce at 90%.
Take Forums, 50% bounce rate, people want to get back to the forum fast.
Bounce rate today is just so skewed, people are flaky in general and don't even know what this is..
You could add better content, re-design your site, etc. But certain people will still bounce.

Also I have a large niche site, real content, real unique clean theme, perfect site.. Flawless.
Yet people search for my exact keyword, exact niche, exact site they would need, exact everything...
Yet some still bounce. Why the fuck are these people being so stupid/picky. It's the site you need, why are you leaving?
I swear people online have no idea what they are really trying to accomplish.. So they bounce around.

Bounce rate is when people click on your site and click back
, i have 50% so half of them click back
which is pretty bad

Seen people claim they get a lot of traffic and <1% bounce rate.
Anything under 50 is ok
Under 33 is very good
Under 20 is world class - and not without it's own problems (are you getting organic traffic, are you keeping people with popunders or whatever?)
Under 10? Only sites that ask you to fill in a 2 minute form for the real promise of gold delivered to your door by Cheryl Cole in high heels and nothing else would get a bounce rate that low.

I like what Scritty has to say about this and would echo exactly what they are saying for the bounce rate that you have now.
With that said, there are tons of ways to improve bounce rates. One of the way I have seen work well on sales pages, that you can use with blog posts or any content...
Create longer engaging content that is written in such a way that draws them deeper and deeper inside to content. Words like, "i will cover that in a bit", "Below I will talk about", "at the end of this post, I will tell you how"... Anything that will get them to stay on the page... Then, at the end, be very clear about, if you liked this article you will like this and include anchor texts that link to other articles on your site.
Doing these things should and do help you.

I like to use How, what, why in the titles like "See 6 reasons why blahblah training is used by experts everywhere below"
smaller paragraphs that are easily digested. Use direct sentences as opposed to indirect sentences.
Use TWO attention getting devices in the first two lines of the first paragraph. Attention getting devices: ellipsis points, question, italics, bold.
Follow AIDA format attention, interest, desire, action.

+1 for good design. It's gimmicky, but it works.
I personally am sucked in to anything that has a aesthetic and cool design, even for a few moments.
