how to lower bounce rate?

one of my websites has an 85% bounce rate how is this possible?

It just means that they had no reason to stay beyond the content they clicked through to read. This can be a normal stat for a blog type of site. It doesn't mean they didn't read your article, it just means that they didn't interact further with your website.

Adding related posts / in-line related posts / e.t.c can help reduce the bounce rate, but ultimately it is down to how well your content is tied together and the type of website you have. Make sure your site structure is clearly evident, so that a reader can easily find more of the same.

Again, if you are running a blog, high bounce rates can be normal. You are better off looking at time on page as a metric to determine whether or not your content is appealing.
 
Watch Time on page metric in Google Analytics. Bounce rate measurement require at least minimum 2 click to calculate. If user reach you blog and read for sometime and later if they close the tab, 2nd click is missing in this part. That's the reason the blog have high bounce rate. Make user to click 2nd time using videos or images to reduce bounce rate.
 
Make sure you also take care of user experience of webpages.
You need to update the page with quality link linked where they matter.
Also improve page load speed.
 
Lots of pretty pictures and no popups or excessive ads
 
Relevant content for your niche, mobile friendly pages, lower page load time, no ad heavy pages, add call to actions that keep you visitors on your site, no confusing site or site menu structures. Try driving traffic that is interested in your site's content.
 
beside all guys information, you have to make sure that there is no wrong url, for ex if you put link in social media and change the url after that you will have high bounce rate!

- Image compression where possible
- Well structured, long-form content

Try removing newsletter pop up (If any)
 
If you want google to record good bounce times, you need to make them click a couple of times on something. Otherwise you can see your true bounce rate using Yandex
 
Optimize content for search intent and make sure the content adds value to the user. Target quality traffic on social media and gain user interest, good loading speed can help to lower the bounce rate.

Many people may havent got what they were looking for... So better do more research and develop good quality articles with recent updates on the topic.
 
Just get them to click on another page and it won't be considered a bounce.

Put links at the top of the page that are likely to be clicked.
 
Improve site speed, make your site mobile friendly, provide quality content that users want, and update your content with the latest trends.
