How to know Keyowrd Ranking Difficulty?

How can we actually calculate the difficulty of a keyword to get ranked #1 in SERPs?
In the Google Keyword Tool, I just noticed that "Competition" is the number of advertisers that showed on each keyword relative to all keywords across Google. The number of advertisers that showed on each keyword relative to all keywords across Google.
It is only limited to the ads?
Can anyone explain it how can I check the ranking difficulty for keywords?

To calculate a keyword difficulty for orgznic SERPs il personnaly use RankTracker software developed by link assistant.

They have a algo calculating the KEI (keyword difficulty) using factors such as DA, PA, backlinks, social signs and many many others..

It is the very efficient to me.. but it is not free.

There was a thread in here I believe posted last year by one of the members revealing his equation model for assessing the keyword difficulty. I can't seem to find it yet but if someone else remembers it, please share with OP.

Each tool will give you a different difficult rating for a keyword..the best way to analyse competition as to be through experience. But you can find many good tools Traffic travis has a competition tool but the best free one has to be from Keyword Revealers.

SEMRush just released their latest features, one of which is keyword difficulty column.

What software is good to find high ranking keywords and spy on competion?

I use Semrush and Spyfu to find competitor keywords and spy on them.

This guy has written a step by step guide.

I have all the tools mentioned here plus long tail pro and subscription to famous premium service.

What I ended up using is Google.com, Mozbar and my eyes.

1 - I search google for any keywords
2 - I look at the top 10 try to find any week url ( exact match domain.. very long name domain )
3 - Mozbar helps too with finding really weak, new pages/domain as they will always have low DA/PA
4 - If my website is stronger than competitors, then I know I can rank for the keywords
5 - I might choose 2 or 3 competitors and check their urls in Ahrefs, Majestic.. Just to make sure they are really weak
6 - You don't need any of the tools above, you can open the links and check how good the pages/website..

Really, use your eyes and brain ! When you visit CNN or GSMArena.. Does it look like a website that was made few months ago, or you can compete and outrank then in 2 months ?!

Finally, you could just go with Longtailpro, its cheap, fast and can do bulk analysis

Try and use moz toolbar ...Its free ...if the DA of sites in the first page of google are higher than your site's DA ,then it will be difficult to rank .
