How to know if you been hit with an algorithm penalty?

How do you know if you have been hit with an algorithm penalty?

Is there anyway to check?

I seen a post from a member saying if you type your brand / website name in Google and it shows up on page 1 then its not an algorithm penalty, I’m not sure if there is any truth to that?

Any help would be much appreciated.

You may have been hit with an algorithm penalty if your website traffic has decreased significantly without any significant changes to your website, or if you notice that your website is ranking lower than usual for certain keywords.

You can also check Google Search Console for messages related to manual actions that have been taken against your website. If you see a message telling you that one or more of your pages has been penalized, then you know that an algorithm penalty has been applied.

I don’t have any manual actions, even if I consult with an SEO expert they can’t give a definitive answer. Because it could be a Google dance or an Algorithm penalty.
