how to keep a US SIM card active while being outside the US for a long time

SIM companies in the US deactivate SIM cards if you leave the US for 3 months so, what If someone is leaving the US for a long time (permanently) how can they keep their US SIM card active to keep receiving bank SMS linked to that number?

Maybe you could port it to a virtual provider that allows receiving SMS.
