How can I jumpstart my blog once its fully developed and I start posting? I keep seeing things about SEO and backlinks what would be the best route to pursue first.

Promote your content in relevant social network areas. You should do a blog comment here and there. Create and link all of your social media profiles.

Really depends on your niche and monetization strategy.

I agree with the post above. If you have recently launched, focus on creating social signals to your blog, as well a little bit of link building.

In the long run, you should also have a content strategy (if you don't already) that helps you define what your potential primary and long-tail keywords are so you can focus on improving you rankings.

Good advice from above, write original articles based on what people are searching for in your niche. If you are unsure then there is plenty on BHW with advice from experts. Also look in the marketplace and downloads section for tools and software that can help with keywords etc. Just keep posting at regular times and only use original content

Content is king so have some high quality content. Then make sure you use social sites to link to it.

I don't know much, but social media always helps bring in some traffic.

Social signals are a great idea for some initial traffic, and as a basic back-linking start. You might want to look at your niche and determine the general competition level, see what they are doing to rank their sites, and go from there. You do need/want great keyword ideas for your on-going content development solution, so you need to look at that side of things and generate some possible keyword lists that you can rank for, and which can serve as inspiration for content.

Don't forget to have a complete monetization method in place if/when your traffic starts pumping up. You should probably be squeezing leads into your email marketing funnels, i.e. building your list. You should put decent thought into what you want to market to this crowd as well as your general overall approach. If you are just running a blog, and thinking adsense is going to pay your bills ... you will be in for a rude awakening if your blog is literally what most people think of when they say "blog."

General subject matter that is unorganized, non-linear, largely unrelated, and inspired in the moment is rarely the kind of content Big G advertisers spend money on. On the contrary - they would tend to spend much more money on well mined niches with high paying keywords. In this way most people fail to appropriately make a blog because they tend to listen to the whole "Do something you love" crowd. There is no guarantee the crowd has any interest in the same things you have interest in, so one is much better off catering to the crowd's wishes as opposed to writing about what one loves.

You should consider what traffic sources would be best for your blog. There are many more traffic sources such as:

    • Organic: Search engine traffic. Many different types of sites use and rely on this type of traffic, but it isn't for everyone as some people find that other traffic sources convert better.
    • Social media traffic: This traffic is best for websites that appeal to the common folk on social media sites. If you have something that's worth sharing, social media traffic can be great for your site.
    • Referral traffic: This is essentially just traffic from backlinks. If you're in a niche with a dedicated forum, sharing your content on that forum can bring in tons of visitors.
    • E-mail traffic: Some may say this type of traffic is a bit outdated, but before social media, things would spread via e-mail. These days, if you run an e-mail marketing campaign, you can still bring in plenty of traffic.
    • Direct traffic: If your site is amazing and has an easy-to-remember domain, you'll receive plenty of this. 27BSlash6 & The Best Page In The Universe are two examples of sites that I would imagine receive a lot of direct traffic.
    • Paid Traffic: This usually works best if you're a business selling something directly, but you can certainly try it on other sites if you understand PPC (pay-per-click) advertising.

Make sure that you post high quality content consistently. Aside from quality, consistency is something that you should remember at all times. And yes, find your audience and make sure that they know about your page. Reach out to them through the use of social media.

Great stuff, thanks. The social media aspect is proving the most time-consuming for me, but I'm still gearing up on it.
