How to index directory listings for backlinks?

Hey guys,

I am adding my website to a bunch of directory listings. I already am on some, and a few are dufollo. The problem is, Google still says I have no inbound links. I tried finding the directory listing on Google and it's just not there.

Am I able to make a sitemap of external websites (all my listings, or something) and ping it to google? How else can I get those indexed so google sees those juice backlinks?

First, you have to check directories allow search engines to index and follow their listing pages. If not you have nothing to do.
If allow you have to wait because search engines crawl a site based on how popular the site is to search engines and authentic.

just manually submit each directory page to Google. Done.

You can create sitemap of the external directories but where do you submit them ?
So creating sitemap of other sites, which you dont own is not useful at all.
Do this method:
after getting the backlinks submit them here: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url ; to be indexed.
And mind it it'll take some time to be indexed.

Good call! I just checked now and they all let their pages be indexed.

Hmm that works, I'm wondering if it would be faster to use a mass-pinger to make a bunch of backlinks (like Alexa, whois tools, website rankers, etc...).

I was thinking https://www.google.com/ping?sitemap=location_of_sitemap, but I guess that's probably for internal links. I wasn't sure. Ahh I'm impatient

Yes, sitemap is for those sites which are owned by you. As you have to put that sitemap using your search console account.
Follow the method, I said. It'll be useful for you. For bing there is other method too. If you need help for that, you can ask me.

Something else to consider, when I check my backlinks in google webmaster tools it ALWAYS only shows a portion of my backlinks whereas tools like AHREFS shows almost all my backlinks.Just because you're not seeing them in webmaster tools doesn't mean they don't exist and aren't being crawled or making a difference on your SEO.

I've been using Moz, but I will check out Ahrefs! Thanks

first of all, try to be natural ! if you links are indexing then it's great if not then you just need to make a web2.0 blog and on that you just need to post all the links in the last ! i am 101% i will got indexing but you just need to delete those after getting indexed !
I hope you would follow this advice !
