How to increase CTR?

Hi BHW,

First - if this is the wrong place to post, my apologies. Please let me know where this ask should be posted.

I have started a new website in a rather competitive market. I've done a lot optimizing content, and reducing page load times, but I always seem to have crazy high impressions (from ranking 5-11), with my CTR remaining really low. What tips would you recommend to increase my CTR/positions? I've tried searching through the forums, but I'm not seeing much in terms of CTR increasing. I have a DR of 31 and ~190k impressions vs 4k clicks. The biggest competition I have has a 12 DR with ~500 backlinks (though their top DR backlink is from a 91 and a 70.).

Would more backlinks help?

Any tips would be appreciated.

You need to improve your ranking/position to increase your CTR. Trying it the other way around has not successfully been proven to work.

Sites on position 1 to 3 tend to have much higher clicks and by extension CTR, than those below.

Improving your rank from the position you find yourself. Could be done through content optimization assuming there are some questions you haven't answered very well. The fact that your site is on the first page, means Google considers it good enough.

If you've already done the content part. Backlinks might just be what you need. Not just external backlinks, but internal links from relevant pages that either have good links to themselves or are doing well on the SERP or s combination of both. You have to look into your site and how the pages are doing to decide how to do this interlinking.

You can increase CTR in a number of ways, starting with writing attention-grabbing headlines for your target demographic. Your headline needs to accurately summarise the information on your website or in your advertisement. Additionally, adding startling or emotive components to your headline can boost clickthrough rates and boost engagement.

Make your website stand out by creating catchy titles and descriptions, and get more people to click by adding quality links from trusted sources. Certainly a few Quality backlinks will definitely help!

The bottom line is, you need to "entice" people into clicking YOUR results and, for this, you need to:

Get as many keywords as possible to Google´s first page - After all, this is where all the clicks are.
- If you have a large % of keywords ranking in positions 11+ it doesn´t matter (well, not too much) how much you implement all the above recommendations because searchers won´t be able to even see your impression if that content item is not in Google´s top 5 or top 3 organic positions.
Lastly, once you get a larger % of your keywords into Google´s top 5 or top 3 organic positions you can start focusing (or even before that) to optimize your page titles by making them more "click-worthy".
- Also focus on optimizing your content to target a feature snippet
- Implement schema to potentially target a rich snippet

And that´s pretty much it!

First of all you have to work as per the SEO guidelines and have to make your keywords rank on the 1st page of Google, then after you have to make sure to make the meta of the page user engaging and attractive so that users get attracted and click on your website in hope of getting something intresting and helpful...

Try to keep the meta which is visible in SERP engaging and informative....
